About the Doctor

Curtis L. Hayden, D.D.S., P.A.

Dr. Hayden has an ongoing passion for dentistry and the specialty of orthodontics. Excellence in treatment, esthetics, and function in a caring environment is his goal and he personally sees and treats each patient with the help of an outstanding and friendly staff. After graduation from Princeton University, he received his DDS degree from the School of Dental Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Hayden received his post-doctoral Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the U.S. Army Orthodontic Residency Program, Fort Meade, Maryland while on active duty in the United States Navy Dental Corps. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is a Diplomate of that professional organization, a distinction fewer than 30% of orthodontists attain. He is continually reviewing evidenced-based literature and incorporating the newest technology and equipment into his practice to maintain the highest quality of care. Dr. Hayden is committed to lifelong learning and has accumulated over 2500 hours of continuing education since his graduation from dental school.

Prior to becoming an orthodontist, Dr. Hayden received his first post-doctoral Specialty Certificate in Comprehensive Dentistry where is finished first in his class and became a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. His extensive clinical experience with restorative techniques, crown and bridge, root canals, TMJ therapy, gum surgery, and the extraction of wisdom teeth allows him to communicate effectively with referring dentists for more comprehensive and coordinated treatment plans.

Dr. Hayden is an experienced dentist who has provided quality dental care to numerous beneficiaries world-wide during his time serving in the United States Navy. Virginia, Maine, New Hampshire, California, New Zealand, Antarctica, Maryland, Japan, and Spain are some of the interesting places he has lived and practiced dentistry and orthodontics. During his final tour in the military he was the Specialty Leader for Navy Orthodontists and Special Consultant to the Surgeon General of the Navy in addition to being the Program Director for the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas where he developed and was responsible for the education and professional training of 26 residents who have become outstanding orthodontists.

Dr. Hayden was born in El Paso, Texas, and as the son of a career Army family had 19 different addresses before the age of 21, living in Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arizona, and Germany prior to his parent's retirement to California. He graduated with honors from Pasadena High School where he was a high school All-American in swimming and water polo and ranked in the top 25 in the world in middle distance freestyle and individual medley events. At Princeton University he majored in Geology and was the co-captain of the swimming team and a two-time NCAA Division I All-American, winning nine individual Eastern Seaboard titles in four years.

Following a career in the United States Navy that took them all over the world, Dr. Hayden and his wife, Eileen, chose Manhattan, KS as home to raise their four children, Zane, Hanna, Xavier, and Blaise. It’s a wonderful community to be part of and they’re glad to be in Manhappiness and the Flint Hills of Kansas!
