Kansas Department of Commerce names
Business Appreciate Month winners.
The Kansas Department of Commerce designates June as Business Appreciation Month, a celebration of Kansas businesses and their contributions to local communities and the state economy. Businesses can be nominated by any individual or organization.
Six area businesses were recognized this year in one of four categories: Manufacturing/Distribution, Service, Retain and Hospital/Non-Profit. Hayden Orthodontics was recognized in Service.
"Kansas businesses are the backbone of our economy and our quality of life," says Kansas Department of Commerce Secretary David D. Kerr. "Business Appreciation Month is our way of thanking these great Kansas businesses for all they do to keep our state strong."
The Chamber of Commerce congratulates the nominated businesses and thanks ALL of our area businesses for their hard work, time and effort. Local businesses add life to our community. They create jobs, drive economic growth and proved the good and services we take for granted. THANK YOU area businesses for making the Manhattan area a great place to live and do business.
School Supplies for Children in Iraq
Dear Dr. Hayden,
Thanks so much for your part in helping send supplies to the children in Iraq. We have made several trips out to see them and visit them in their classrooms. They have very little by way of supplies and equipment it seems. Usually just as a little stack of books tied up with a string and the classrooms have a green blackboard, simple wooden desks and that's about it. Sometimes they don't even have power in the classroom. Much different than America.
We have another project kicking off in October and will be taking several hundred backpacks filled with a variety of pens, pencils, erasers, tape, paper and crayons. They will be happy to see it and I will be sure to get some pictures to Gary LaGrange and hopefully he can send them out.
Again, thank you for helping with building up this nation a bit and doing what we can for their children. Our time here in Iraq is drawing to a close and we should be back in Fort Riley around the first week in December. God bless you.
