First Visit

Again, welcome to our office! Your initial visit begins the process of helping you learn more about orthodontics. It allows us to get to know each other and identify your needs, concerns, expectations and any limitations that may exist. We dedicate substantial, quality time for our first visit in order to build mutual trust and understanding. This process enables us to develop the enjoyable relationships with our patients; the foundation for all successful orthodontic results.

You will be greeted by our friendly front desk coordinator, Jodie, who will provide you with the initial forms which let us get to know you better.

After completing the medical history and pertinent personal information. Hollie will review the information before Dr. Hayden introduces himself. We realize that you may be a bit apprehensive about an orthodontist. Relax. We want to make you as comfortable as possible, put you at ease, and answer any questions you may have.

In fact, one of the most important things he’ll ask you to do is smile. As you smile, Dr. Hayden evaluates the position of your upper front teeth from front to back in profile and the vertical positioning of your teeth from the front. He’s noting such things as a gummy smile or a lack of tooth display. The actual examination includes the evaluation of over 250 areas of the dentition skeleton and temporomandibular joints with the most pertinent data recorded.

This evaluation provides the basis for your customized treatment plan, and helps determine where to position your upper front teeth in order to achieve a balanced smile, bite and profile. A review of results and concerns is then discussed with you and potential treatment options are recommended. Our goal is to give you an attractive smile and good bite while keeping the total number of appointments to a minimum and minimizing any discomfort.

Orthodontic Records

Because the clinical examination may not always fully reveal all dental or skeletal concerns, it may be necessary to take additional diagnostic records. Orthodontic records usually include X-rays of the head and teeth, photographs of the face and teeth, and impressions for making models of the upper and lower teeth. This may be accomplished immediately following the initial consultation or scheduled later. Records appointments usually take about 30 minutes and are scheduled between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday.

A treatment planning session will be scheduled three to four weeks following the records appointment, at which time Dr. Hayden will review the X-rays, photos, and models with you. It is at this appointment that all treatment options and recommendations, as well as financial arrangements, will be discussed.
